I'm a moody person. Not so much in my interactions (although it happens), but especially when it comes to my interests and endeavors. I'm a moody reader, for example - I may have a large TBR pile of books, but if I'm in the mood for something particular at the moment (let's say, historical fiction about Italy or about Tudors, or an urban romance), I'll go and search for a book that fits my mood at the moment.
Similarly, I'm a moody artist. Often (although not always), I'll want to paint something "I'm in the mood for" today. For example, I've been watching a show recently called "Death in Paradise", which takes place on a Caribbean island, and between not having a real vacation last year because of Covid and it being winter, I'm dreaming of Caribbean beaches. And so, for the past few weeks, I've been painting a lot of Caribbean seascapes and beaches. They made me feel warm and happy. But I also hope that they made my followers feel warm and happy.
I also love mystical night scenes and starry skies, so I have been painting a lot of night landscapes with beautiful starry skies for the past few years. Probably more than anything else.
However, it's not just about me and how I feel. I call myself "the artist of tranquility", and my goal is always the need to transmit that feeling to my fans and followers. I would like for people looking at my paintings to feel calm, tranquil and maybe a little moody (in a good way).
There are times though, when I need to, and want to, push my limits. I'm still learning (and will never stop), so there are days when I will paint from a course or a demo so I can learn new skills and techniques. Right now, cityscapes and architecture in watercolor is one of my major goals for the year. I think that the feel of certain cities - old and new - is as amazing and beautiful as nature landscapes. Cities are full of history and wonder of their own, and I want to be able to express that as much as the tranquility of starry nights or exotic seascapes.
What other subjects would you like to see me painting? If you're an artist, how do you choose what you paint? I'd love to hear.
